The Oregon Coast is stunning and has so much variety in landscape and scenery. Cape Kiwanda is a beach in Pacific City, OR that’s easily accessible and has plenty of public parking. You can just take photos against the beach, walk a couple of minutes to get to this spot against the edge of the beach, or you can also climb up the side of the mountain which is a giant sand dune and take photos from above. The photos in this gallery are all taken again the edge the beach against the rocks. The sun rises against these rocks so sunset may be the most ideal time to take photos at this location. Fortunately, we had an extremely foggy early morning which created this beautiful haze you see in the following photos.
With an enormous amount of area to photograph, you can do plenty of fun and moving poses with your clients. I always like to keep my couples moving and so many prompts and poses were “grab her hand and run along the beach together” or ” run towards each other and embrace like you haven’t seen each other in over a year.” These fun prompts get natural reactions and emotions from the couple.
I also choose a time to slow things down, typically after doing all of the running around and jumping and your couple needs a little breather. This is where I do more “posing.” I get them close, have them embrace in some way and just take in the moment with each other. This can be me saying “whisper in her ear one thing you love about her” or “cuddle in close and whisper your favorite cereal in the sexiest voice possible” to get genuine laughter.
Wearing neutral colors that don’t match, but complement each other as well as the location you’re shooting at is so important. This will make your couple pop as well as not be distracting.
